Music students have been traveling to perform at the fair for decades, and it is a tradition worth continuing.  On September 24, 2014, Gidley Trojan Choir and Durfee Advanced Chorus traveled to the L.A. County Fair to perform under the direction of Christa Trostle and Suzanne Brown, respectively.  Durfee sang a song in Swahili, as well as “We Can Work It Out” by the Beatles.  Gidley performed jazz standard “It Had to Be You” and “Life is a Highway” from the Disney’s Cars soundtrack.  Both schools chose “God Bless America” as their patriotic number featuring soloists.  Over 75 students from EMCSD demonstrated techniques learned in rehearsal and managed to memorize and perform at least six songs each in just the short time we have returned for the 2014-2015 school year.  A new member of Gidley’s choir commented, “Our overall performance was amazing.  At first, I was a nervous wreck; then I realized the stage was as normal as singing at home.”  This is the first time that both choirs performed at the fair on the same day.  Durfee and Gidley look forward to performing together with the choirs from Wright and Rio Hondo at Arroyo’s Choral Invitational Festival held in the spring.
